No evidence of sacrilege in Kapurthala lynching: Punjab CM Charanjit Channi

Chandigarh/IBNS: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday said there was no evidence of sacrilege in the incident where a man was beaten to death recently at Kapurthala in his poll-bound state, media reports said.

"There was no sacrilege in the Kapurthala case. The FIR will be amended," Channi told reporters.

A man, who was accused of trying to remove the Sikh flag at a gurdwara in Kapurthala, was chased and beaten to death by a mob on Sunday.

The incident occurred a day after a man was beaten to death for allegedly committing sacrilege at Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Police said the incident involved a sacrilege attempt.

Succeeding the two incidents, a blast took place at a Ludhiana court on Thursday, killing one and injuring five.

While Channi has said the guilty will be punished, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has plunged into Punjab politics, said attempts have been made to disturb the law and order situation ahead of the polls.
