Nine MLAs disqualified from Assam assembly

Guwahati, Dec 21 (IBNS) : Assam assembly speaker Pranab Kumar Gogoi on Monday disqualified nine rebel Congress MLAs from the house membership with immediate effect for joining the BJP.

The order issued by the speaker on Monday evening.

The disqualified MLAs are Pijush Hazarika, Pallab Lochan Das, Jayanta Mallah Baruah,  Pradan Barua, Kripanath Mallah, Rajen Borthakur, Abu Taher Bepari, Bolin Chetia and  Binanda Kumar Saikia.

The Principal Secretary of Assam assembly Pranab Kumar Das said that the Congress Chief Whip Nilamoni Sen Deka had filed a complaint with the Speaker on Dec 1 for disqualification of the nine MLAs.

The speaker had issued notification to the nine MLAs giving them one week time to reply, but they sought more time and the speaker gave them one week more.

The speaker called for a hearing on Dec 19 and in presence of both sides, the speaker had heard the arguments from both sides.

The nine rebel Congress MLAs had joined the saffron party on November 6.

On other hand, disqualified MLA Pradan Baruah said that they will challenge the order issued by the Assam assembly speaker to court.
