Nine Indians injured in Mecca mishap

New Delhi /Mecca, Sept 11 (IBNS): Nine Indians have been injured as a crane collapsed at a mosque in the Muslim holy city of Mecca on Friday, officials said.

MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted: "Our Consulate in Jeddah is monitoring situation in Makkah following tragic accident. We have recd reports that 9 Indian pilgrims are injured."

"Senior officers incldg our Consul General are on the ground in Makkah. Indian doctors r deployed in all Govt hosp & ascertaining more info," he said.

At least 65 people have been killed in the mishap.

The collapse at the the Grand Mosque also left eighty people injured, Saudi Arabia's civil defence authority tweeted.

The accident comes when Mecca is preparing for the annual Muslim Hajj pilgrimage.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to arrive in the Saudi city from all over the world later this month for Hajj pilgrimage.
