New Delhi, Feb 16 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appreciated his BJP and its allies for strong performance in bypolls in various states and said voters 'reposed faith in politics of development '.

"Appreciable effort by NDA. People across India reposed faith in politics of development, development & development. Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas," Modi tweeted.

The BJP on Tuesday edged past its closest rival Samajwadi Party to win by-poll in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, according to reports.

The Muzaffarnagar seat was hailed as a crucial point as it was marred with riots in.

The seat belonged to the SP since 2012 but was eventually won by BJP's Sanjeev Balyan.

Almost 60 people had died in 2013 due to riots in Muzaffarnagar.

SP also lost its Deoband seat, conceding it to the Congress, but managed to retain Faizabad.

The by-polls took place due to the death of SP lawmakers in these areas.
