Srinagar, Sept 22 (IBNS) Security forces on Tuesday shot dead a suspected militant during a brief gun-fight in Kawni area of Awantipora tehsil in Southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said.

Police sources told IBNS, receiving inputs about the presence of three militants in Kawni village of Awantipora Southern Kashmir, the step was taken.

“During the cordon and search operation, the holed up militants lobbed grenades on the search party prompting the security  forces to retaliate,’’ a senior police official told IBNS.

"One militant died while two others managed to flee from the spot,” he said and added that reinforcement was rushed to the spot and a search operation launched to nab the militants who escaped.
