Manipur violence: Miscreants burn down house of minister and five MLA's

Guwahati, Aug 31 (IBNS): The house of a minister and five state lawmakers of Manipur were set on fire by miscreants as violence erupted during the 12-hour Manipur bandh on Monday evening, officials said.
According to reports, several organizations including All tribal Students Union Manipur, All Naga Students Association Manipur, Kuki Students Organisation called the bandh on Monday over the Inner Line Permit issue and protest against the few bills, which were introduced in Manipur Assembly on Friday.
 
During the bandh, miscreants set ablazed the house of a minister and five state lawmakers at Churachandpur town in South Manipur.
 
“To control the situation, police used batons and tear gas to disperse the mob,” an official of Churachandpur district administration said.
 
Miscreants also torched the vehicle of Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner and his escort.
 
 The organizations called the bandh protest against the ‘The Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015’, ‘The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015’, ‘The Manipur Shop and Establishment (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015’ which were introduced in the Manipur Assembly on Friday.
