Maharashtra govt should take decision on lifting beef ban: Bombay HC

| | Sep 21, 2015, at 11:39 pm
New Delhi, Sept 21 (IBNS): The Bombay High Court on Monday temporarily stayed the beef ban stating that the decision should be taken by the state government, said reports.

The court was hearing a petition by various groups to relax the ban on beef sale for three days during the Muslim festival of Bakri Eid.

The ban on the slaughter and sale of meat for a Jain festival of fasting known as "Paryushan", had been termed as discriminatory in a petition by mutton traders of Mumbai.

The Bombay  High Court had earlier stayed the controversial ban on sale of meat during a Jain festival.

The ban was later been reduced from four days to only one more day, Sept 17, amid protests and anger.
