Madhya Pradesh: Two trains derail, 24 killed

Harda, Aug 5 (IBNS): At least 24 people were killed as two trains- Janata Express and Kamayani Express - derailed close to Harda town in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, reports said.

Several people have been injured in the mishaps.

Rescue operation is currently going on in the spot of the mishaps.

According to reports, six coaches of the Mumbai-Varanasi Kamayani Express  derailed close to Kudawa railway station at around 11:30 pm.

It was on its way from Mumbai to Varanasi when the mishap occurred.

Four coaches and engine of Jabalpur-Mumbai Janata Express, which was coming from opposite direction, also  derailed nearly at the same time.

Prime Minister  Narendra Modi has expressed pain over the loss of lives due to derailment of Kamayani Express and Janta Express, near Harda in Madhya Pradesh.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have mourned the loss of lives in the accident.

"#PresidentMukherjee condoles loss of lives due to derailment of the Kamayani Express & Janata Express in Madhya Pradesh," President of India's official Twitter page posted.

"The two train accidents in Madhya Pradesh are deeply distressing. Deeply pained over the loss of lives. Condolences to families of deceased," Modi said.

"My prayers with the injured. Authorities are doing everything possible on the ground. The situation is being monitored very closely," the Prime Minister said.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted: "Enquiry ordered,Ex gratia to be paid immediately.Flooding of tracks due to very heavy downpour.Will make detailed statement to parliament."

Heavy rains occurred in the spot of the mishap for the past few days.
