Kolkata: Patient death raises tension at R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, situation brought under control

Kolkata, Jan 10 (IBNS): Treatment of patients in Kolkata's R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital was disrupted for hours on Sunday as the friends and family members of a patient demonstrated at the hospital, alleging that the patient died due to doctors' negligence.

According to reports, one resident of Kolkata's Cossipore area- Dipak Singha- was injured in a road accident on Saturday night. He was rushed to R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital and junior doctors allegedly released him after first aid.

After few hours, health condition of Dipak Singha deteriorated and he was again taken to R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. As junior doctors allegedly did not begin treatment at right time, the patient died after few hours.

Since Sunday morning, friends and family members of Dipak Singha started demonstration at the hospital.

They also blocked the road at Tala Bridge area and traffic in north Kolkata was disrupted for hours. They allegedly assaulted junior doctors too.

Demanding proper security, junior doctors started protesting and stopped working, which harassed many other patients.

A huge police force went to the spot later and lifted the road blockade. A demonstrator was also arrested from the spot for creating violence.

However, situation has been brought under control completely.
