India, UK armies to participate in joint exercise this month

New Delhi, June 8 (IBNS) Exercise AJEYA WARRIOR, a Joint Exercise between the armies of India and UK, will be conducted from June 13 to June 28 at Westdown Camp, Salisbury Plains Training Area, UK.

The Exercise is held biannually in the two countries, alternatively.

"The aim of the Exercise is to build and promote positive military relations between Indian and UK Army and to enhance their ability to undertake joint tactical level operations in Counter Insurgency/Counter Terrorism Environment under United Nations Charter," read a government statement.

A Company strength will participate from a Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army, nominated for the Exercise.

The Indian Army Contingent after reaching the Exercise location at Westdown Camp, UK, will familiarise with the weapons, equipment, tactical drills and orient themselves with the terrain.

The Opening Ceremony for the Exercise is scheduled on 13 June and the Closing Ceremony on 28 June 2015 which will be attended by senior officers from both the armies.
