IAF locates Pawan Hans helicopter wreckage

Shillong, Aug 10 (IBNS): The Indian Air Force (IAF) has located the wreckage of Pawn Hans helicopter operating in Arunachal Pradesh, which was declared missing by the force Radar Unit in the area.
The incident was reported on Aug 4.

The Indian Air Force immediately swung into action by activating assets to track the missing helicopter.

As the area is mountainous, thickly wooded with prevailing bad weather, looking for the missing helicopter was proving to be extremly difficult, an official statement said.

Accordingly, Su-30 MKI, C-130. IL-78 aircrafts along with surveillance radars provided multiple inputs to narrow down to the likely location of the helicopter.

"Inspite of inclement weather,MI-17, Chetak and Cheetah helicopters flew extensively to comb the area to look for the missing helicopter. Sorties were continuously undertaken from 0430 hrs till night on a daily basis," the statement said.

The helicopters from Air Force Station Mohanbari finally spotted the wreckage in the thick foliage south of Khonsa on Monday morning.

"This was made possible due to untiring efforts of the various units of Headquarters Eastern Air Command, IAF," the statement claimed.
