First woman to contest Aligarh Muslim 'varsity polls found dead

Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, May 14 (IBNS) The first woman to contest election in Aligarh Muslim University Students Union has been found dead.

Reports said Asma Javed was found dead in her apartment in Aligarh's Civil Lines area on Wednesday.

A tablet and Rs 45,000 have been reported as missing from her flat.

According to police, 28-year-old may have died days ago.

The police broke into her home after neighbours complained of a foul stench.

The deceased's relative alleged that she had been murdered. The girl allegedly had a tiff with a hotel owner recently.

"She had a tiff with a hotel owner over money he borrowed. Her tablet and Rs 45,000 in cash are missing, I tried contacting her last Friday but her phone was off," brother of the deceased Salman has been quoted as saying.

Four years ago, Asma Javed made headlines when she became the first woman to contest student polls in the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University, defying convention.

Investigation into the case is currently underway.
