Lucknow, Sept 16 (IBNS) In a stark revelation of the job crisis in India, 2.3 million candidates, including those holding doctorate and enginerring degrees, have applied for peon's job in Uttar Pradesh, reports said.

For 368 positions for peons at the Vidhan Sabha Sachivalay or state assembly in Lucknow, more than 23 lakh people have applied. Of them, 255 have doctorates in engineering, commerce and science and around 25,000 have master's degrees.

For the post of a peon the only requirement is  school education and bicycle-riding skills. Not even a written exam is needed.

Deluged by the huge tide of applications, the government is consulting experts.  If so many candidates are to be interviewed, selection could take four years, media reports quoted officials as saying.
