David Coleman Headley says Ishrat Jehan was a member of LeT

Mumbai, Feb 11 (IBNS) Deposing before a Mumbai court for the third day from a US cell, 26/11 accused David Coleman Headley said on Thursday that Ishrat Jehan- who was allegedly killed in an encounter by Gujarat Police dubbed fake- was an LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) affiliate, working closely with the women wing, according to reports.

Jehan was reportedly shot in Gujarat in 2004 along with three others by the Gujarat Police on suspicion of possible terror link.

Her killing had triggered a political firestorm with the political opponents of Narendra Modi and rights groups targetting him on the issue.

The Crime Branch of Gujarat Police who shot them, had said that Jehan and the others were planning to kill the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi.

The murder, termed as 'cold blooded' drew flak from CBI as they alleged the destruction of evidence from the Gujarat Police.

Though arrested, the seven members of Gujarat Police were granted bail later.

BJP on Thursday immediately reacted to the deposition of Headley saying Congress had tried make it a polical issue against Modi while it was a security issue of the nation.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said if Headley had made some comment let it be investigated rather than use it politically or use his remark as a gospel.

"Fake encounter is not justified under Indian law," he said.
