Congress calls for general strike in WB on Aug 20

Kolkata/Siliguri, Aug 9 (IBNS): The Congress on Sunday called for a statewide 12-hour general strike in West Bengal on Aug 20 to protest against the student killing inside college campus in West Bengal's West Midnapore district.

Addressing a press conference here at Siliguri, West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Adhir Chowdhury announced it officially.

Adhir Chowdhury told IBNS: "20th August is the birthday of Rajib Ghandhi. Every year Congress celebrates the day as Sadbhavna Diwas (Harmony Day). This year, we are calling a 12-hour general strike in Bengal on that day to protest against the killing of two students in Burdwan and West Midnapore districts of West Bengal."

One Congress Chhatra Parishad (CP) activist Krishna Prasad Jana, a B.A. third year student of Sabang Sajanikanta Mahavidyalaya was allegedly killed during a clash between CP and TMCP inside the college campus in West Midnapore district on Friday.
