Centre directs Mamata govt for report on Malda mob violence
New Delhi, Jan 6 (IBNS): The Centre on Wednesday asked the Mamata Banerjee government to submit a report on the mob violence on Sunday, where protesters attacked a police station in the Kaliachak area in West Bengal, media reports said.
The attack on the police station took place when a minority organisation Anjuman Ahle Jamat (AJS) organised a protest rally against Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari for making alleged derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad.
Earlier, in the day, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Shamik Bhattacharya along with 10 other party activists has been arrested in Malda in connection with the case.
Bhattacharya was arrested from Rathbari in Malda town as a preventive measure as tension was prevailing in the area.
Rapid Action Force has been called in to take stock of the situation.
