After Delhi, four more states ban Maggi Noodles
New Delhi, June 4 (IBNS): In a setback for Nestle India, four more states including Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu, have joined Delhi in placing a temporary ban on Maggi Noodles, after it has been caught up in a controversy of containing harmful ingredients.
Uttarakhand has banned the popular brand "till further notice".
Gujarat as well as Jammu and Kashmir banned Maggi Noodles for a month.
The Tamil Nadu government banned Maggi for three months after its tests found lead twice above the permissible limit, reports said.
This comes after Maggi Noodles, a popular brand across the country, has faced a "15 day ban" in Delhi following an order by the government which asked Nestle India, the manufacturers to recall current stocks from the capital by that time and make available new stock.
The Indian army too has asked soldiers to avoid Maggi, reports said.
In Delhi the new stock will be allowed after a proper check of its ingredients which have become a matter of controversy in recent times after the Uttar Pradesh government took a similar action.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jina, who met Nestle officials on Wednesday said he was "not satisfied with their response".
The Delhi government has said that 10 of 13 packs of noodles it tested were found to have high lead content.
Jain said the state government is now ordering tests on all brands of noodles.
On Wednesday, tests by food safety officials under the Health Ministry showed permissible levels of lead, though the results of their MSG test is still awaited. A test by the Food and Civil Supplies Ministry is also awaited.
