AAP alleges letters prove Jaitley's role in DDCA corruption

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IBNS) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday released two letters, which it claimed were proof of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's direct involvement in covering up corruption in Delhi's cricket body DDCA.

Addressing a press conference, AAP claimed that the letters were written by Jaitley to the Delhi Police on a case linked to the Delhi and District Cricket Administration.

"Documents with us clarify that Arun Jaitley was aware of everything going on at DDCA. He was not just involved in corruption, but also in the cover-up" AAP Ashutosh leader Asutosh said.

Dated October 27, 2011, the letter with Arun Jaitley's name is addressed to then police commissioner BK Gupta on allegations that the cricket club of the Syndicate bank was turned into a private club.

"There is another letter dated May 5, 2012. Mr Jaitley also wrote to Ranjit Narayan, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police. He said the complaint against the DDCA related to syndicate bank scam is unsubstantiated. He said officers of the DDCA are feeling harassed by repeated questioning. Is this not direct interference in the criminal investigation?" Ashutosh said.

In its five new questions for Mr Jaitley, AAP asked: "Is it not a fact that you misused your position as leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha to pressure Delhi Police? Being an eminent lawyer yourself can you deny that your actions amount to directly obstructing the police probe in an ongoing case?"

The party also questioned whether it is "fair for you to continue as a central minister particularly when the Delhi police reports to the Centre?"

The BJP has, however, brushed aside the AAP allegations as "utter nonsense."

"If we were to hold AAP to similar standards, Arvind Kejriwal should have resigned long back. He is threatening the police, he is protecting his principal secretary,"  BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said.

Jaitley has sued Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other members of AAP over their allegations that he presided over deep-rooted corruption in the DDCA when he was its chief for 13 years till 2013.
