500 shanties demolished in Delhi slum, child allegedly dies in process

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IBNS): A child has allegedly died in a slum area of west Delhi as 500 shanties were being demolished during an anti-encroachment drive by the Railway police, media reports said.
"Residents of the slum in west Delhi's Shakur Basti have alleged that their homes were demolished without any warning or notice, leaving hundreds of them exposed to biting cold," NDTV reported.

According to the slum's residents, the girl died when a piece of furniture fell on her during the shanties being bulldozed.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the area on late Saturday night.

Condemning the incident, he said: "This is highly condemnable. God will not forgive them. They (officers involved) should be booked for murder."

He also informed that his government has suspended three senior officials for failing to provide relief material to the residents.
