18 die in landslides as heavy rains lash Darjeeling

Darjeeling, Jul 1 (IBNS) At least 18 people have been killed in landslides in the Darjeeling hills since Tuesday.

The landslides were caused by heavy rains pounding Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong-the three hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling district in West Bengal.

Reports said the landslides have caused heavy damage to national highway 10 and 55 snapping road and  telecommunication links between Darjeeling and Sikkim.

There are also reports of several people missing in Kalimpong.
