‘Can’t imagine life without Apple’: Tim Cook breaks silence on retirement rumours

Tim Cook has firmly dismissed rumours about stepping down from Apple, stating that he has no plans to leave the company anytime soon.

Speaking during an appearance on Good Morning America, Cook directly addressed speculation surrounding his future. He clarified that he had never indicated any intention to retire and reaffirmed his deep commitment to the company.

Cook emphasised that he continues to enjoy his role, noting that his association with Apple spans nearly three decades. He described his journey as fulfilling and said he could not envision a life outside the company.

Leadership questions amid executive departures

Cook’s remarks come at a time when Apple has experienced significant changes within its senior leadership team.

The company recently saw the departure of key figures, including AI chief John Giannandrea, its top legal officer and a leading design executive within a short span.

Reports have also suggested that senior chip executive Johny Srouji may be considering an exit.

These developments have triggered debate over whether Apple’s current leadership structure is equipped to compete in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence landscape.

Apple turns 50

The clarification from Cook comes as Apple prepares to mark its 50th anniversary on April 1, a milestone moment for the tech giant.

The company is expected to unveil a series of major innovations, including its first foldable iPhone and AI-powered smart glasses.

However, Apple still faces pressure to deliver on its long-promised overhaul of Siri, which was delayed in 2025.

Industry analysts have pointed out that the coming year could be critical in determining Apple’s position in the global AI race.

Growing debate over Apple’s AI strategy

Criticism has intensified around Apple’s approach to artificial intelligence, particularly following its reported agreement to integrate Google Gemini into iPhone features.

Some analysts argue that this move increases Apple’s dependence on Google, potentially weakening its competitive edge.

Market watchers, including prominent voices from investment firms, have suggested that this period might be an opportune moment for leadership transition, especially with Apple’s stock trading near record highs.

Cook defends 'privacy-first' vision

Despite mounting scrutiny, Cook has shown no urgency to step aside.

He described artificial intelligence as a transformative technology but reaffirmed Apple’s commitment to a privacy-centric approach.

Addressing broader challenges, including trade tariffs imposed during the tenure of Donald Trump, Cook stated that Apple continues to assess the situation carefully.

The company has reportedly paid billions under existing policies and remains open to evaluating its legal and strategic options.
