Pittsburgh, Oct 27 (IBNS): Several people were killed in a shooting which took place at Pittsburgh city of the US on Saturday, media reports said.

The shooting took place at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.

A law enforcement official told CNN that the shooter, who has been identified as Robert Bowers (46), made anti-Semitic statements while shooting.

Bowers surrendered to police and was transported to Mercy Hospital, report said.

Another law enforcement official told CNN that at least 12 people were shot.

Following the incident, US President Donald Trump tweeted, "Watching the events unfolding in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Law enforcement on the scene. People in Squirrel Hill area should remain sheltered. Looks like multiple fatalities. Beware of active shooter. God Bless All!"

Trump further said on Twitter, "Events in Pittsburgh are far more devastating than originally thought. Spoke with Mayor and Governor to inform them that the Federal Government has been, and will be, with them all the way.
