US delays implementation of Huawei trade ban by 90 days : Commerce Dept.

Washington, May 21 (Sputnik/UNI) The US government will delay the implementation of a ban on trading with Chinese telecom giant Huawei for another 90 days, the Commerce Department said in a notice posted in the Federal Register.

"This final rule creates a 90-day temporary general license that partially restores the licensing requirements and policies under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) for exports, reexports, and transfers (in-country) to sixty-nine entities added to the Entity List on May 16, 2019," the notice said on Monday.

The extension is effective through August 19, 2019, according to the notice.

The reprieve followed a decision to place Huawei on a US trade blacklist for engaging in activities that threaten US national security.

By issuing temporary licenses with the new rule, Huawei will be able to maintain existing networks and update software on handsets, according to Commerce.
