US-China relations on the rise: Trump accepts Xi's invitation to visit Beijing next year

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he has accepted an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Beijing in April, following a telephone conversation between the two leaders.

Trump said the call covered a range of issues, including the Ukraine conflict, fentanyl, and purchases of American soybeans. The conversation comes weeks after their meeting in South Korea at the end of October.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I just had a very good telephone call with President Xi, of China. We discussed many topics including Ukraine/Russia, Fentanyl, Soybeans and other Farm Products, etc.”

He added that the two sides had reached a “good, and very important, deal for our Great Farmers — and it will only get better.”

Trump described the US-China relationship as “extremely strong” and said he invited Xi for a State Visit to the United States next year.

He added that frequent communication between the two leaders would be important going forward.

The call follows a framework agreement reached in South Korea on October 30, after months of trade tensions triggered by Trump’s tariff announcements.

Under the agreement, the US decided not to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese imports.
