Two Russian bridges collapse, seven die

At least seven people died and multiple others were injured after two bridges collapsed in separate incidents in Russia's western region, bordering Ukraine.

The cause of the collapse and whether the incidents are related is still unclear.

A road bridge came down in Bryansk, bringing several heavy trucks onto a moving passenger train late on Saturday, the regional governor was quoted as saying by BBC.

According to reports, 47 people were shifted to the hospital for treatment.

Moscow Railway alleged on Telegram that the bridge came down as a result of "illegal interference", BBC reported.

A locomotive train was reportedly derailed after a second bridge collapsed in the Zheleznogorsk district later.

Acting governor Alexander Khinshtein told BBC that the train caught fire and a driver suffered injuries to his legs.

Khinshtein wrote on Telegram as quoted by the British media: "The cause of the bridge collapse will be established. All emergency services are working on the scene. I am keeping the situation under control."

Traffic has been suspended on the motor road beneath the railway bridge, reported TASS news agency.
