Toronto school buses delay on first day of school by several minutes

Toronto, Sep 5 (IBNS): The Toronto school buses were delayed by several minutes right on the first day of the school this year, media reports said.

On Tuesday morning, Toronto witnessed delays in 139 bus routes.

General manager of the Toronto Student Transportation Group, Kevin Hodgkinson, said Tuesday's delay is four times than normal school days.

Hodgkinson was quoted as saying: "On average, you’re looking at about 30 delays each day, morning or afternoon."

Report said as per the Toronto Student Transportation Group’s website, buses of both Catholic and Secular boards got delayed by anywhere between 10 and 80 minutes.

Toronto District School Board's spokesperson, Ryan Bird, was quoted by the Star: "We are having some delays as we do every day."

However, the causes of the delay, according to the website, include mechanical breakdowns, drivers coming up late.

Hodgkinson, however, said around 45% of the delays were caused by the traffics. He also said the delay in school buses on Tuesday are lesser than the one occurred on the first day of the school last year.

In 2016, huge number of parents complained to the TDSB against the bus delays that affected over 2000 students on the first day of the school.
