Pentagon confirms N Korea flight-tested multiple ballistic missiles

Washigton, May 10 (Sputnik) The US Defence Department can confirm that North Korea tested multiple ballistic missiles that flew east to distances in excess of 300 kilometers (186 miles), Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col Dave Eastburn said in a statement.

Earlier, the KCNA news agency said that North Korea conducted a long-range strike exercise which was overseen by leader Kim Jong Un.

The news came just hours after South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Pyongyan fired unidentified missiles from the country’s western province of North Pyongan.

"During the early morning hours on 9 May Washington DC local time, early evening hours in Seoul and Tokyo, North Korea flight-tested multiple ballistic missiles from a location in northwestern North Korea… The missiles flew east from the launch area to distances in excess of 300 km before impacting in the ocean," Eastburn said on Thursday as quoted by Yonhap.

Earlier in May, North Korea carried several missile launches. The South said the missile ranges were from 43 to 124 miles.
