Kamala Harris officially nominated as Democratic's presidential candidate for US election

Washington DC/IBNS: US Vice President Kamala Harris Friday secured the Democratic party's presidential nomination, which confirmed her candidature to take on her rival-Republican Donald Trump in November's Presidential race.

Kamala Harris was the sole candidate on the ballot for a five-day electronic vote of nearly 4,000 party convention delegates.

She will be officially crowned at a Chicago convention later this month.

"I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States," Kamala Harris, 59, posted on X after securing enough votes by the second day of the marathon vote.

"At this moment, we face a choice between two visions for our nation: one focused on the future and the other on the past. With your support, I am fighting for our nation’s future," she said.

On July 22, US President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election in the 'best interest' of his party and the country.

Biden was under pressure to quit the presidential race following his struggling performance in the debate with many within his party doubting his candidacy and re-election attempt.

He made the announcement just four months before the USA votes to elect a new President.

Biden had then endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for the Presidential race.

He posted on X: "My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."
