Jim Acosta to address CAJ's national conference in Winnipeg

Ottawa, Apr 10 (IBNS): According to an announcement made by The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) Jim Acosta, CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent, will be addressing the association’s upcoming national conference in Radisson Hotel (downtown) Winnipeg on May 4, media reports said.

Acosta is a world renowned journalist who had his press pass suspended and was temporarily barred from the White House grounds in November 2018.

He will be releasing a book, entitled The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America in June 2019.

Acosta’s keynote will discuss the impact of this incident and the changing tides of press freedom around the globe.

“The CAJ is overjoyed to welcome someone with the international standing of Mr. Acosta to our national conference,” says Brent Jolly, 2019 conference chair.

“His experiences, while certainly exceptional, do resonate strongly with many Canadian journalists who are concerned about the challenges posed by those who seek to inhibit a free press.”

Registration to attend this year’s conference is open.

Over the course of two-and-a-half days, conference delegates will be able to participate in community conversations, skills workshops, and other interactive events.

Attendance for the full weekend starts at $250 plus HST for CAJ members, which includes a ticket to the conference banquet and gala. Rates for unemployed journalists and CAJ student members start at $75. Discounts are available for CAJ Award finalists as well those registering in a group. These early bird rates will rise on April 26.

The CAJ is Canada's largest national professional organization for journalists from all media, representing about 750 members across the country. The CAJ's primary roles are to provide public-interest advocacy and high-quality professional development for its members.

Queries about the 2019 conference can be addressed to Brent Jolly, conference chair, brent@caj.ca

Queries about registration can be directed to Kathleen Speckert, CAJ administrator, kathleen.speckert@caj.ca
