It is time to stop this ridiculous war: Donald Trump calls Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelenskyy to end Ukraine conflict

Washington DC/IBNS: US President Donald Trump Wednesday called Russian President Vladimir Putin and both leaders agreed to immediately start talks to end the Ukraine war.

Trump described the call as "lengthy and highly productive" in a post on Truth Social, saying that the two leaders had even agreed to visit each other's nations to address the deep tensions since the start of the Ukraine war in 2022.

In an official statement, the Kremlin too confirmed the call and said it lasted nearly one-and-a-half hours.

They also confirmed that both Putin and Trump had agreed that the "time has come to work together," with a long-term solution for the Ukraine war in reach.

In a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump said: "I just had a lengthy and highly productive phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia."

He said they agreed that "we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine" -- with Trump using an unconfirmed figure for the toll in the Ukraine conflict.

"We agreed to work together, very closely, including visiting each other’s Nations. We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now," said Trump.

Trump had promised to end the Ukraine war before taking office and has been pushing for a peace settlement for a long.

The Ukrainian presidency later confirmed that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone call with Trump.

Trump said that his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy too wanted "peace," after the US president spoke to Russia's Vladimir Putin about talks to end the Ukraine war.

"I just spoke to President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. The conversation went very well. He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE," Trump said on Truth Social, adding that Zelenskyy would meet US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Munich on Friday.

"I am hopeful that the results of that meeting will be positive. It is time to stop this ridiculous War, where there has been massive, and totally unnecessary, DEATH and DESTRUCTION," he wrote.

Zelenskyy has been trying to keep on the right side of Trump and maintain US support while pushing his own nation's demands for peace with Russia.
