Israel has struck Iran's underground Natanz nuclear complex: UN agency

Israel has hit one of Iran's most secretive and secure nuclear facilities - the Natanz nuclear complex, located deep underground, in a precision strike, the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Tuesday.

It was earlier believed that Israel would not be able to target this uranium rich facility successfully due to its location.

In a post on social media platform X, the IAEA said, "Based on continued analysis of high-resolution satellite imagery collected after Friday's attacks, the IAEA has identified additional elements that indicate direct impacts on the underground enrichment halls at Natanz."

The IAEA said it is still assessing the situation.

Due to an escalation in the conflict, officials from the IAEA have not been able to inspect the site directly.

For now, it is assessing the situation through high-resolution satellite imagery as well as feedback it is getting from its sources at ground zero.

Israel had earlier shared satellite images confirming its precision strike on Natanz nuclear facility.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military claimed to have eliminated Iran's top military commander Ali Shadmani, during an overnight strike.

The IDF describes him as the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's closest aide.

Israeli forces had earlier attacked nuclear infrastructure in Tehran, besides striking its oil depot.
