Invite sent, invite pulled: Trump withdraws Canada’s ‘Board of Peace’ invitation

US President Donald Trump has withdrawn an invitation extended to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to join the newly announced “Board of Peace.”

Sharing a copy of the letter on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Dear Prime Minister Carney: Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining what will be the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time."

"Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he said.

The withdrawal comes just days after Carney warned publicly of a potential “rupture” in the US-led global order, comments that drew international attention.

Earlier this week, Trump formally ratified the Charter of the Board of Peace at the World Economic Forum in Davos, declaring it an official international organisation.

According to the White House website, Trump will serve as the board’s chairman, alongside founding members from several countries who have committed to supporting a secure and prosperous future for Gaza, aimed at delivering lasting peace and stability in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Trump said: “Today, the first steps toward a brighter day for the Middle East and a much safer future for the world are unfolding right before your very eyes. Together, we are in a position to end decades of suffering, stop generations of hatred and bloodshed, and forge a beautiful, everlasting, and glorious peace for that region.”

While Trump did not specify the reason for revoking the invitation, the BBC reported that Ottawa had recently indicated it would not pay the proposed $1 billion (£740 million) membership fee, which Trump has said permanent members would be required to contribute to help fund the board.

Canadian officials have not publicly commented on Trump’s letter.
