I am honoured: Narayan Murthy's son-in-law Rishi Sunak after becoming UK Finance Minister

London/IBNS/UNI: After becoming the United Kingdom Finance Minister, Indian-origin British MP Rishi Sunak, the son-in-law of Infosys co-founder and billionaire Narayan Murthy, said he was honoured to assume the new post in the Boris Johnson government.

In a tweet, Sunak, who got married to Murthy's daughter Akshata, said, "I am honoured to be appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer. My predecessor and good friend Saj did a fantastic job in his time at the Treasury. He was a pleasure to work with and I hope to be able to build on his great work going forward."

Sunak, 39, on Thursday replaced Pakistani-origin Chancellor Sajid Javid as the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister) of the UK, while Alok Sharma was appointed Business Secretary in the British Cabinet with Priti Patel as the new Home Secretary.

Javid, who made headlines for being the first British Asian to hold one of the Great Offices of State in the UK, is believed to have lost to a brutal power struggle with Prime Minister Johnson and his chief adviser Dominic Cummings over who should control the country’s economy.

The Prime Minister had promised in front of media and public not so long ago that that Javid would be his chancellor.

Johnson had said, "I'm going to give you an absolutely categorical assurance I will keep Sajid Javid as my chancellor. I think he's a great guy, and I think he is doing a fantastic job."
