British MP Priti Patel has expressed her concern over the recent violence in Bangladesh following the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das and the targeting of the minority community in the country since the fall of former PM Sheikh Hasina-led government.

Patel wrote on X: "I am deeply concerned by the awful violence we have seen in Bangladesh, and my thoughts are with those affected."

She urged PM Keir Starmer government to set out the manner in which it is engaging with the interim administration of Bangladesh on the current situation in Bangladesh.

She said, "In Parliament this afternoon, I called on the Government to set out how they are engaging with the Bangladeshi Government on this pressing and important issue."

The MP said: "Robust action needs to be taken to protect life and prevent violence and persecution, including based on religious belief."
