Hindu journalist shot dead in Bangladesh amid fresh minority violence

In another incident highlighting violence against minorities in Bangladesh, a 45-year-old Hindu factory owner and acting editor of a local newspaper was shot dead by unidentified assailants, media reports said.

The victim, identified as Rana Pratap, was reportedly attacked by a group of men who shot him in the head, according to local media. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to reports, Pratap suffered multiple cases filed against him and is alleged to have links to an extremist organisation.

An investigation is currently underway, and authorities have not yet made any arrests.

Pratap’s killing comes amid a spate of attacks targeting members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

Since December, at least three Hindu men have been murdered, and a Hindu widow was raped in a separate incident, drawing sharp criticism from rights groups.

These incidents have prompted condemnation of the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, with critics questioning its handling of law and order and the protection of religious minorities in the country.
