A suspected Iranian drone struck a parking area near the US Consulate in Dubai on Tuesday, triggering a fire that sent thick plumes of black smoke into the sky, officials said.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the drone hit a parking lot adjacent to the chancellery building.

“The last update I had, seconds before stepping before these cameras, was that a drone unfortunately struck a parking lot next to the chancellery building and ignited a fire,” Rubio said.

He added that all personnel were accounted for and noted that the United States had already begun drawing down diplomatic staff in anticipation of rising tensions.

Dubai’s Media Office confirmed that no injuries were reported and that the fire had been fully extinguished.

“The fire near the US Consulate in Dubai has been fully brought under control, with no injuries reported. Dubai authorities reaffirm their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all,” the office said in a post on X.

The incident came as loud explosions were reported across Dubai and Doha late Tuesday, amid continued Iranian drone and missile strikes targeting countries in the region that host a United States military presence, according to media reports.

The escalation follows US and Israeli strikes on Iran that began on Saturday, prompting Iranian counterattacks aimed at Gulf states and Israel.

The rapidly intensifying hostilities have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict and severely disrupted air travel. Several Middle Eastern nations have closed their airspace due to security concerns.

Aviation analytics firm Cirium reported that at least 12,903 flights were cancelled between Saturday and Monday — approximately 40 percent of all scheduled services during that period.
