The US government has announced a penalty of USD 5,000 for undocumented immigrants aged 14 or older. The penalty has been imposed under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Sharing details on X, Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks said: “Under 8 USC §1815, all illegal aliens aged 14 or older who entered the United States without inspection will be assessed a $5,000 apprehension fee.”

He added that violations under 8 USC §2339 and 8 USC §1324 would also apply.

“This message applies to all illegal aliens—regardless of where they entered, how long they’ve been in the U.S., their current location, or any ongoing immigration proceedings,” Banks said.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Border Patrol’s Big Bend Sector has reported a significant reduction in apprehensions for illegal border crossings in Fiscal Year 2025, contributing to improved operational control of the border.

“Big Bend Sector recorded 11,823 apprehensions in FY 2023 and 3,096 in FY 2025—a decline of 74 percent compared to two fiscal years ago,” the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.

The Big Bend Sector, which is responsible for 517 miles—roughly one-quarter—of the U.S. southwest border, is employing a strategy that balances personnel, technology, and infrastructure to enhance border security.

“The decrease in illegal entries is a testament to strong border policy, as well as the tireless efforts of our agents, support personnel, and partners such as the Department of War and the Texas Military Department,” said Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Lloyd M. Easterling.

“The men and women of the Big Bend Sector have shown resolve, expertise, and heart. They carry out their border security mission with great skill while operating in some of the most rugged terrain in the country.”
