Canadian Tragedy: Surrey loss shakes Jandali Kalan family

| @indiablooms | Aug 09, 2024, at 09:24 pm

In the quiet village of Jandali Kalan, the unthinkable has unfolded, leaving a grieving mother grappling with an overwhelming loss. Hardeep Kaur, the resilient matriarch of a farming family, is mourning the sudden death of her elder son, Amanjot Singh, who passed away unexpectedly in Surrey, Canada.

The tragedy struck just four days ago, leaving Kaur in a state of shock and disbelief. Her life has been marked by a series of heart-wrenching losses. She endured the deaths of her husband and father-in-law early in her life, and was left to raise her three siblings and her two sons after the untimely passing of her own father when she was just in Grade IV.

Determined to provide her children with better opportunities, Kaur made the difficult decision to send Amanjot to Canada on a study visa.

To afford this, she had to sell a significant portion of her land—a sacrifice that highlighted her hopes for a brighter future for her sons. Amanjot, in turn, worked tirelessly and began supporting his mother financially.

His aspirations extended beyond his own success; he had plans to bring his younger brother, Pawanjot Singh, and his mother to Canada to build a new life together.

However, fate took a cruel turn when Amanjot suffered a silent cardiac arrest at his home in Surrey.

Despite his hard work and dreams, he passed away without receiving timely medical intervention.

In the midst of her grief, Hardeep Kaur has chosen not to seek financial assistance from government or non-governmental agencies for the repatriation of her son’s body.

Instead, she remains resolute in her decision to travel to Brampton with her younger son, Pawanjot, to conduct Amanjot’s last rites.

Rajinder Singh Bath, a close friend of the family and an NRI resident in Canada, has taken steps to support Kaur during this challenging time.

He has engaged with Brampton MP Ruby Sahota to facilitate expedited visa processing for Kaur and Pawanjot, ensuring they can be present for the final farewell.

This heartbreaking story is a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the strength required to navigate its most difficult moments.

As Hardeep Kaur prepares to honour her son’s memory, the community stands in solidarity, reflecting on the resilience of a mother’s love and the enduring impact of familial bonds.
