Canada: St. John's woman accuses court of caring abuser more than her future

St. John's, Dec 11 (IBNS): A St. John's woman, Aden Savoie, accused the court for caring her boyfriend, who had abused her, than caring the woman's future, media reports said.

The 20-year old accused pleaded not guilty for an incident which occurred with Savoie in April.

Illustrating the incident, Savoie told CBC News: "My boyfriend at the time was abusing prescription drugs."

"I called him upstairs to just hang out with me. He was in a really bad mood 'cause he was agitated from taking the Percocets, so he just started going off about how I never leave him alone," she added.

Not revealing much, Savoie said she was left with bruises on different parts of her body.

Savoie stated that on the trail day, she was informed that she no longer would have to testify since her ex had decided to change the plea.

She said her boyfriend had agreed to a deal that stated that if he had pleaded guilty, a separate charge of breaching the order of not contacting his girl friend will be withdrawn.

However, she was stunned to receive a court update, which stated that her ex will not be convicted as a criminal record would hamper his future plans.

Savoie shared the mail on her Facebook profile.

Savoie said on Facebook: "After much consideration I've decided to post this email, as many of you already know due to the rumours and whispers that have been circulating the goulds for the past 8 months I was abused by my ex boyfriend and that I was pressing charges against him."

"Yesterday it was decided that yes he was guilty but is not going to be punished for anything because it would "hamper his plans" for the future; this being after the fact that the crown attorney had told me that he had took the plea deal to be on probation . 24 hours later and I still can't believe this is how our justice system works or how this even happened. It's 2017 this shouldn't still be happening" she added.
