Canada PM Trudeau's retaliatory tax imposition may affect recreational boating

Ottawa, Jun 16 (IBNS): Canada's tax imposition on the US goods might affect recreational boating in the north American country, media reports said.

The Canadian recreational boating industry said it might suffer a huge loss if the tax imposition on the US goods actually comes into force.

Canada's imposition of tariffs is likely to be effective from Jul 1.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association Canada, which represents the recreational boating industry, on Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to convey about its possible losses due to the tax imposition.

Association president Sara Anghel has been quoted by CBC News as saying these tariffs "will cause irreparable and disastrous damage to the industry, from which it would likely never recover".

The US administration has imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union (EU).

Countering Trump administration, Trudeau has imposed tariffs on imported steel, aluminium and other products from the US.

Trump originally imposed tariffs in March and had earlier exempted Canada, Mexico and the EU to buy time for negotiations. However, the negotiation time has expired on Thursday.
