Canada: MP Deepak Obhrai passes away

Toronto, Aug 4 (IBNS): Long-time Conservative MP Deepak Obhrai died on Friday night of liver cancer, officials said on Sunday.

He was 69.

Obhrai, the representative from Calgary Forest Lawn, was an MP for 22 years and the Dean of the Conservative caucus and ran for the party's leadership in 2017.

As a tireless supporter of India, and the activities of the Canada India Foundation, he had been honoured in 2009 with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest recognition given to persons of Indian-origin by the Government of India.
