Canada: Amid rally row, Jagmeet Singh condemns any form of terrorism

Ottawa, Mar 15 (IBNS): Amid the ongoing row over his attendance at a Sikh rally, New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has condemned all acts of terrorism, media reports said.

Singh has condemned any terrorist act without regarding anyone who is responsible for it.

Singh's comment came at a time the NDP chief is facing heat over his presence at a rally, where song of Sikh separatism was sung, three years ago.

However, Singh went to a defensive mode as the reports over his presence surfaced.

He said the rally was organised to commemorate the death of Sikhs in India in 1984 following the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Singh also termed the attack on Sikhs as "genocide".

But Singh is not the only Canadian leader to be caught in the Sikh separatism row.

Weeks ago, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was the one who faced criticism after his wife Sophie was caught in a single frame with convicted pro-Khalistani terrorist Jaspal Atwal during India visit.

Atlwal was also invited by the Canadian High Commissioner to India though the invitation was later rescinded.

Gandhi was assassinated by few of her Sikh bodyguards in 1984.

Post assassination, several Sikhs were killed across the country.
