9/11: America observes 2001 tragedy

Washington, Sept 11 (IBNS) Fourteen years have passed since the September 11, 2001, tragedy which claimed almost 3000 lives in what is considered to be the worst man-made disaster to hit the country in the 21st Century.

The attack widely believed to have been carried out by militant group Al-Qaeda under the leadership of Osama Bin Laden, had destroyed the then World Trade Centre as two planes crashed in the building. Another plane hit and bit off parts of the Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Defense. A fourth plane, heading towards Washington DC, crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Fourteen years later, America still mourns the loss with Americans posting their messages on Twitter.

Zoe Phillips wrote: “Remembering those that lost their lives and thinking of the families that suffered from the 9/11 tragedy... @Sept11Memorial .”

Mauro Ranallo wrote: “It's officially September 11 in the eastern time zone. My thoughts are with everyone directly impacted by the 9/11/01 tragedy.#NeverForget.”

Some have spoken against the hate that loomed large after the tragedy, calling an end to it.

Kristal wrote: “Yes, 9/11 was a tragedy, but the aftermath of heinous hate crimes & discrimination towards Muslims, Arabs, Sikhs, etc shouldnt be overlooked.”

Ali A Olomi wrote: “#afterseptember11 I who was born and raised here, who mourned the tragedy of 9/11 was suddenly not American enough. Suddenly I was the enemy.”

Another netizen Mea wrote: “9/11 is a serious tragedy and you shouldn't make jokes anyways. NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS.”
