Ex-US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump remained safe after another suspected assassination attempt was made on him in Florida on Sunday.

According to reports, the suspect fired near his golf club.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said it is probing the incident as an assassination attempt.

"The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump," the FBI said.

Officials said one person has been taken into custody.

A man taken into custody after gunshots were fired near former President Donald Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, was “relatively calm” when detained, Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder said Sunday as quoted by CNN.

“He was not displaying a lot of emotions. Never asked, ‘What is this about?’” the sheriff said.

According to reports, security service officials recovered an AK 47 rifle from the spot where the suspect was positioned.

“In the bushes, where this guy was, is an AK-47 style rifle with a scope; two backpacks, which were hung on the fence and had ceramic tile in them; and a GoPro. … So, those are being processed right now,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw was quoted as saying by CNN.

The arrested suspect was identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh.

Joe Biden, Kamala Harris react to attack

US President Joe Biden appreciated the secret service and other security officials for ensuring the safety of the ex-President.

"I have been briefed by my team regarding what federal law enforcement is investigating as a possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today," he posted on X.

"A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe," he said.

Vice President Kamala Harris said there is no place for violence in the USA.

"I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America," she posted on X,.

What happened to Trump during the earlier assassination attempt at the rally?

Former US President Donald Trump received injuries on his right ear during a Saturday election campaign rally at Pennsylvania's Butler, in what is seen as an assassination bid that left the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate's face streaked with blood with his alert security agents rushing him off the stage even as he pumped his fist in the air, mouthing the words "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

The shooter, along with one bystander who was there to attend the rally, died.

As gunshots were heard, Trump, who was just six minutes into his election speech, was seen clutching a hand to his right ear, where blood was visible across his cheek and mouth.

Two other spectators were injured, the Secret Service said in a statement. The incident was being investigated as an assassination attempt.

Secret Service agents were quick to respond and surrounded Trump while escorting him off the stage, as he raised a fist to the crowd in defiance.
