Toronto/IBNS: A ‘grocery rebate’ that will be offered to Canadians with lower incomes who may be struggling with the rising cost of food, has been included by the 2023 federal budget, media reports said.

According to sources, nearly 11 million lower-income Canadians will be helped by the new measure of the 2023 budget which will be unveiled in Tuesday’s federal budget.

The new feature in the budget would facilitate a couple with two children to get a one-time payment of up to $467, a senior could get a one-time payment of $225, while a single person would be paid $234.

Once the budget implementation bill passes in the House of Commons, the benefit will reportedly be part of a GST credit.

Inclusion of targeted affordability measures in the 2023 budget to help those feeling the pinch of inflation the most had been signalled by both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.
