Ottawa, Feb 21 (IBNS):  During her first official visit to Ontario this morning, Canada's Governor General Julie Payette was received with a ceremonial welcome at the Legislative Assembly in Toronto, media reports said.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne joined Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and  Dave Levac, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to welcome Payette.

It was on Oct 2, 2017 that Payette was installed as the 29th Governor General of Canada.

Upon arrival at Queen's Park, she received military honours, including a 100-person guard of honour, the Vice-Regal Salute and a 21-gun salute from 4th Canadian Division/Joint Task Force (Central), including the Governor General's Horse Guards.

Payette was then escorted into the Legislature for meetings with both Dowdeswell and Wynne.

“The Governor General is an inspiration and role model for so many Canadians. As a woman who reached the very top of her field in STEM and a passionate educator, Julie Payette shows us that we can all reach for the stars and make a difference in our communities. I am honoured to welcome her on her first official visit to our province,” Wynne was reported to state.

Payette's official visit to Ontario also includes a meeting with John Tory, Mayor of Toronto.

She would also be honoring about 60 remarkable Canadians in recognition of excellence, courage and exceptional dedication to service.

Her visit reportedly will conclude this evening with an official reception hosted by Wynne.
