
US condemns Kabul explosions
A statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan said: "The United States Embassy condemns in the strongest terms the cowardly bombing attack that has claimed scores of innocent lives in Kabul during a peaceful demonstration in which citizens were exercising their constitutional rights. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, and we wish all of those who were wounded a full recovery."
" We will continue to stand with our Afghan partners and friends as they strive every day to bring peace and security to Afghanistan," it said.
Twin explosions hit a mammoth rally staged by the Hazara minority in Afghanistan capital Kabul on Saturday which killed at least 61 people, media reports said.
According to local media reports, the explosions occurred at around 2:30 pm.
Luqman, one of the rally participants, told Pajhwok Afghan News the first explosion happened near the Barikot Cinema and the second followed in Demazang Square.
The explosions have reportedly left more than 200 people injured.
Security officials have cordoned off the area.
