A Pakistani court has sentenced to death a Christian person on charges of blasphemy.

He was identified as Noman Masih.

He is aged between 19 to 22 years.

Noman has been convicted of keeping blasphemous images of Prophet Muhammad in his cell phone and sharing them with others via WhatsApp. According to his relatives and lawyer, the prosecutor’s story is, however, contradictory, reports Bitter Winter.

The Pakistan Penal Code, the main criminal code of Pakistan, penalizes blasphemy against any recognized religion, providing penalties ranging from a fine to death.

According to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, around 80 people are known to be incarcerated in Pakistan on blasphemy charges - half of those face life in prison or the death penalty
