Islamabad: Pakistan PM Imran Khan has asked authorities to take action against those involved in lynching of a man who had allegedly commited blasphemy in Mian Channu region of the country.

Khan tweeted: "We have zero tolerance for anyone taking the law into their own hands & mob lynchings will be dealt with full severity of the law. Have asked Punjab IG for report on action taken against perpetrators of the lynching in MIan Channu & against the police who failed in their duty."

Hundreds of people reportedly attacked the victim and stoned him to death.

Police told BBC they have arrested more than 80 people in connection with the killing on Saturday in the district of Khanewal in Punjab province.

The body of the victim has been handed over to his family.

His funeral was performed on Sunday.

The latest incident occurred just months after a Sri Lankan factory manager was beaten to death and set ablaze by a mob over blasphemy in Sialkot city.
