Pakistan records 100 COVID-19 deaths for first time this year

Islamabad: Pakistan has reported 100 deaths due to COVID-19 in a single day for the first time this year.

The country last reported 100 deaths on December 23, 2020, reported Geo News.

According to the data provided on the National Command and Operation Centre's (NCOC) official website, about 100 people lost their lives to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the countrywide death tally to 14,300, reports the Pakistani news channel.

The total death toll due to the disease now stands at 14,356.

Pakistan President Arif Alvi has tested COVID-19 positive after taking the first shot of the Chinese made vaccine.

Alvi made the announcement on Monday on Twitter.

Pakistani President Arif Alvi and his wife Samina Alvi earlier this month received their COVID-19 jabs with the Sinopharm vaccine, Xinhua news agency reported.

Alvi tweeted: "I have tested positive for Covid-19. May Allah have mercy on all Covid affectees. Had 1st dose of vaccine، but antibodies start developing after 2nd.dose that was due in a week. Please continue to be careful."
